MYLOR COUNTRY FIRE SERVICE

ABOUT US

The Mylor C.F.S. is currently composed of 20 active members - Captain, four Lieutenants, four Senior Firefighters and 17 Firefighters (and also four cadets). We also have our Support Group (or Auxiliary). These are people who work in non-operational roles in the areas of fundraising, community awareness and the provision of food and drink to the firefighters during long incidents. Without the many hours of effort these members contribute, the brigade would not function effectively (if at all). Our trained radio operators are also an integral part of our team.

This station houses two vehicles - Mylor 24 (that's two-four, not twenty-four!) and Mylor 14 (one-four). The numbers indicate how much water each appliance holds (2000 and 1000 litres respectively), and if it is 2 or 4-wheel drive (4WD in both of these cases). Mylor 24 is our main attack vehicle, Mylor 14 is handy for getting to places a bigger vehicle just can't go! Our local area has quite a few rugged bits in it. We formerly housed Mylor Tanker, but this currently resides at a neighbouring brigade.

Mylor C.F.S. attended 46 callouts last financial year. All of our firefighters and radio operators are issued with pagers. They are ordinary people from a wide cross-section of the community, willing to give some of their time to the brigade. All that is required to be a firefighter is to be over 16 years old, reasonably healthy and prepared for whatever hot, dirty and hard work is required of you (or occasionally cold, wet and hard work. The variety is endless!) As you can see in our Photos page, we don't just put out bushfires! Floods, vehicle accidents, fallen trees, structure fires and animal rescue all receive our attention. Several of our members are trained in Compressed Air Breathing Apparatus (CABA) use, which allows them to operate in smoke-filled buildings and hazardous materials incidents. There are also many hours spent on activities such as training, equipment maintainence, demonstrations and fundraising. It takes considerable effort to keep everything and everyone in prime condition, ready to roll at short notice!

OUR ILLUSTRIOUS FORMER GROUP OFFICER - OUT OF UNIFORM!
Being a volunteer firefighter is a great experience. You become part of a team, learn new skills, get to know your local area better and perform a valuable service to your community. If you think you have what it takes, then contact your local brigade. If you live in the Mylor area, we would really like to have you on our crew!
